Organized Chaos
Yorkies in my Home…Actually, ALL over my Home
As a hobby breeder, I prefer to have my Yorkies, or nerds, as I call them close to me at all times, hence the reason ALL of my yorkies live inside at all times. If there is a problem or issue, I want to it handled immediately, and I can’t do that as readily, if they are in a separate area or building. My Yorkies are not in outdoor kennel or separate housing facility; they are in my living room….kitchen, sitting area, bathroom, bedroom, etc. I originally had crates for each one, but felt the crates were just too tiny and a pain to clean. So I decided to make some indoor kennels, how hard could it be? (famous last words, I know.)
In keeping with the ‘Southern theme,’ I decided that dog runs modeled after Rainbow Row in Charleston, SC would be perfect. Each Rainbow Run is 2 feet wide, 34 inches tall and 3 feet long.(I can sit in one, comfortably and stretch out my legs.) There are 2 only dogs per Rainbow Run and because Moo is a larger yorkie, she gets her own. As you can see by the image below, dogs are able to pop their heads out the windows and check things out.
Each run is complete with pergo “wooden” flooring, mounted water bowl, a squishy woobie bed, and a washable piddle pad. Piddle pads and woobie covers are washed DAILY. Kennels are deep cleaned weekly. I define deep cleaning as: everything in each kennel is removed and wiped down with disinfectant. The floor, walls, and surrounding areas are also cleaned and bleached.
When I have a litter of pups, the Dam and pups are moved into ‘the nursery,’ also known as my bedroom. Should an issue arise at 2 AM, I am right there to address it. Once the puppies are old enough to be weaned, they are then moved to the Puppy Picket Fences. This allows me to separate Mom from pups. Both Rainbow Runs and Puppy Picket Fences are located in my living room. (I have a HUGE living room; I could bust out a cartwheel or two, if I were so inclined.)
For safety reasons, I have chosen to meet potential buyers at a public location and NOT in my home. Once I get to know you and determine you aren’t going to harm me or the Yorkies, you are more than welcome to join our organized chaos pack in my home or elsewhere. I now rent the foyer area in an office building in Conway, SC. This allows you to see the puppies, complete the paperwork, ask any questions and we are all out of the elements. The physical address for the building is: 1415 3rd Ave Conway, SC 29526. Meeting at this location, is by appointment ONLY. I used to meet at a local park, but the children at the park would descend on me like locust and I do not like having to throw elbows at 5 years olds.
In efforts to silence any fears with my yorkies, I would encourage you to check out my Google Business Page: SOUTHERN YORKIES or my Facebook Business Page. In addition, per a requirements of AKC and Breeder with H.E.A.R.T., I am subject to random inspections to ensure that pups and dogs are treated well and in a clean and safe environment.
