YORKIE KIBBLE

isolated-dog-foodOver the years, I have tried a lot of dog/puppy foods.  I will admit that I used to buy my dog food from the local supermarket, until I discovered how bad it can be for them.  It was then that I went searching for better options. After much thought and research, I now ONLY feed my dogs and puppies a dry dog food that is 4.5-5 Stars.  No Exceptions. I do vary the dog food that I use, just to give them some variety, as no one wants to eat the same thing day in and day out.

As I am not independently wealthy, I also have to take into consideration my financial standing. I can not spend more in dog food than I am spending on my own food. I feed my adults and puppies first thing when I wake up and typically they are waiting on me…If I am sleeping in too late for their liking, they let me know I need to roll out and fix breakfast!!  It is in the morning that I feed a WET topper dog food over a dry.  (For the rest of the day the dogs and puppies get DRY food ONLY.) Using a wet food  “Topper” creates interest for adult dogs and puppies alike. For puppies, this encourages them to eat promptly upon waking, thus giving me a better idea when they have to go potty.  I have searched and searched for a good topper and once I find one, it gets discontinued OR the price goes through the roof. I am currently using PURINA ONE SMARTBLEND: TRUE INSTINCT. It is a 4 Star dog foos according to dogfoodadvisor.com.  I like it, and the puppies and dogs LOVE it.  I have had minimal issues with upset tummies, diarrhea, or my picky eaters not wanting it.  You will receive a few cans in your Diaper Bag!

blue buffalo copyThis food is my Yorkies, absolute favorite.  They love it.  They especially love the tiny little “Life Source Bits” which I call crunch berries. They pick out the crunchberries and leave the remaining food the all over the floor. That would be my only CON for this food, would be that MY dogs make a mess with it trying to pick out the Crunch Berry/ Life Source Bits.  This food has  great nutrition and the kibble size is small enough even for Pieenie, puppies, nursing mother’s, etc.  Although, it can be a little pricey, it is still worth the money… if you have neat eaters.

Breakdown: 24 pound bag, $51.00

Orijen Adult Dog Food

orijen copyThis food is nothing short of awesome. This food has one of the highest percentages of protein and my dogs produce noticeably less waste when eating it. Even though it is a top pick for me, there are a few CONS. The kibble size for this food is a bit large for my smaller/ teacup yorkies and the food has an odor. The other CON is cost and that no where around me sells it.  I must order on line.  Even ordering it on line where the cost is usually substantially less, a 28 pound bag cost $80.00. Even given all the CONS listed, if they made a small bites version in a LARGE bag size, I would buy it. It is that good.

Breakdown: 28 pound bag $80.00, shipping may be additional

Diamond NATURALS: Puppy

This is my current favorite dog/ puppy food.  The kibble is very, very small, even small enough for Pieenie as an adult and my puppies that weigh less than a pound.  The dogs choose this dog food over the Orijen, but not over the Blue Buffalo. They LOVE the Life Bits, but I don’t like the mess.  So, this is a good compromise.  This food does not have to be ordered on line, as most Tractor Supply stores carry it… usually at a discount.  In comparison, you can buy 2 bags of the Diamond as opposed to Orijen and have more food AND $20.00 in your pocket. Lastly, there isn’t a huge odor associated with the food.  Take Home Message: This is my current favorite.

Breakdown:  40 pound bag $45.99
